ICLA Dusseldorf Conference 2017
This year's annual meeting of ICLA was hosted by TIGGES Law Firm and took place in Düsseldorf over 21-23 September 2017, with 24 participants from 9 countries in attendance.
Participants discussed current international legal developments and hot topics, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (which from May 2018 will impact all businesses controlling or processing the personal data of EU nationals). Our Russian alliance member updated the delegates on developments in their jurisdiction and one of our subject matter experts delivered a review of decisions of the English Courts concerning Russian related frauds.
We were also delighted to welcome two guest speakers. Dr Petra Arends-Paltzer (Consultant for legal digital business models) gave a very interesting overview of "New digital Business Models for Lawyers: Google/Golf". In addition, entrepreneur, start-up founder and investor Vidar Andersen gave a talk entitled “Start Up Success In Germany”; which explained the benefits to be had for new businesses establishing themselves in North Rhine Westphalia. Both presentations provided valuable insight for the conference participants.
The next annual conference will take place in New York City in Autumn 2018 and will be hosted by ICLA member Venable LLP.
